Register a car in Munich

Bought a car, or want to put a deregistered vehicle back on the road? We register your vehicle at the Munich registration authority for you – no need to book an appointment or wait at the office.

In a hurry? More on fast car registration and on how to order online.

When do you need to register?

  • New car: your brand-new vehicle is registered for the first time.
  • Used car that is already deregistered: you bought a car that is currently off the road.
  • Re-registration: your own car was deregistered and should be driven again.

If the used car you bought is still registered, you need a re-registration (change of ownership) instead.

Good to know

  • Main residence in Munich: Vehicles are registered at your main residence. You need to be registered (angemeldet) with your main residence in Munich – or your company must be based here.
  • Leased or financed cars: If the bank holds registration certificate part II, it must be sent to the authority. We explain how.
