Custom licence plates in Munich
Initials, a birth year or a combination that means something to you: a custom plate (Wunschkennzeichen) makes your car personal. We check whether your combination is available, reserve it and complete the registration.

Which combinations are possible in Munich?
Munich uses the prefixes M and MUC. Because Munich doesn't have enough combinations for all vehicles, fixed formats apply to cars without E (electric) or H (historic) plates and without seasonal plates:
- M + 2 letters + 4 digits (e.g. M AB 1234)
- MUC + 1 letter + 4 digits (e.g. MUC A 1234)
- MUC + 2 letters + 3 digits (e.g. MUC AB 123)
Important
The reservation must be in the name of the future keeper, with exactly the same details as at registration – otherwise it is not accepted. That's why we're happy to handle it for you.
The authority charges an additional fee for a custom plate on top of the registration fee.
